Costa Rica’s sandy beaches are great for lounging on. Nothing is more relaxing than a good book with the sound of the ocean in the background. The vast Caribbean lowlands extend inland, providing habitat for hundreds of species of plants and animals. Skip the crowded beaches and commercial tourism on the Pacific side for pristine quite beaches on the Caribbean side. Costa Rica offers great birdwatching opportunities within relatively short distances, involving very diverse habitats, from sea level to the high mountains above. On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica you see nearly 400 species in Turrialba or tour San Gerardo de Dota to see additional species plus the prized Resplendent Quetzal.
